The philosophy of NCT antenatal classes is to
empower women and their partners to make informed choices in
managing pregnancy and labour. The courses are held for small groups
of expectant mothers and their partners. The classes are informal
and friendly, and many groups stay in touch after their babies are
born.
The antenatal classes run over 8 weeks, or there
are intensive courses running over 3 Saturdays. Included is relevant
anatomy and physiology, preparation for labour including breathing
and other relaxation exercises, pain management options and
practising postures for assisting the labour and birthing process.
Breastfeeding and early parenting skills are also discussed and
there is in addition there is a reunion class which takes place once
all the babies in the group have been born.
